TWO FILMS ON RACE IN AMERICA
Two films on Race in America: The Jena 6 and Americans on Hold

Cafe Bohemia, 937 Central Ave. St. Petersburg.
Films are shown in the outdoor courtyard, so if weather is an issue please check back here beforehand.

THE JENA 6
In a small town in Louisiana, six families are fighting for their sons lives. Two nooses are left as a warning to black students trying to integrate their playground, fights break out across town, a white man pulls a shotgun on black students, someone burns down most of the school, the DA puts six black students on trial for attempted murder, and the quiet town of Jena becomes the site of the largest civil rights demonstration in the South since the 1960s. THE JENA 6 is the story of hidden racial inequality and violence becoming visible. It is a powerful symbol for, and example of, how racial justice works in America where the lynching noose has been replaced by the DA's pen.

AMERICANS ON HOLD: PROFILING, PREJUDICE, AND NATIONAL SECURITY
Americans on Hold: Profiling, Prejudice, and National Security is a timely and powerful documentary film that exposes the U.S. government’s use of discriminatory profiling in the name of national security, and its impact on South Asian, Arab, Middle Eastern, and Muslim community members.  Produced by the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice (CHRGJ) at New York University School of Law, AMERICANS ON HOLD reveals the harmful effects of prejudicial and ineffective U.S. counter-terrorism and immigration policies. (2010, 30 mins.)

Krisis

KRISIS
Krisis is a feature documentary film that fuses the material collected during the filming of The Prism GR2011. It is the synthesis of the different stories narrated in The Prism GR2011, into a feature documentary that explores how Greece and the Greeks are experiencing the current economic crisis, looking into the hearts of the people. It is also an experiment in collective documentary filmmaking, combining different perspectives on Greece, as seen through the lenses of 14 photojournalists. It echoes the voices of people from all walks of life, in an attempt to tell the story of the Greek crisis through the reflections of the team-members who made The Prism possible.
