Activists denounce Israeli aggression Sunday, July 23, 2006 St. Petersburg, Fla. On July 22, nearly 50 anti-war activists in St. Petersburg rallied around signs and banners denouncing Israel's aggression towards Lebanon and Palestine, as well as U.S. imperialist wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Protestors from around the Tampa Bay area showed solidarity and a willingness to speak out against Israeli aggression, even though it is not in vogue to do so. The protest took place in front of Baywalk, an entertainment complex in downtown St. Petersburg. | | Although there was not a lot of support for our message, there were very few negative reactions either. One highlight was when a city bus driver honked his horn and offered encouragement. “Shame on Israel", “Israel: U.S. backed terror” and "War Needs Capitalism Needs War" were some of the signs held by demonstrators.
St. Pete for Peace will return to Baywalk on Saturday, July 29 to continue to raise awareness about the Israel assault on Lebanon and other U.S. led atrocities in the Middle East. | |
