Thank you from Jim of St. Pete for Peace Thank you to everyone who helped
plan and participated in Saturday's event at Williams Park to mark the
2nd anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Together we sent a
resounding message to the Tampa Bay area that we do not tolerate
violence nor the lies used to justify that violence. Thanks
to those of you who took time from your short weekend to join us.
You got a mere taste of what we can do together as a community united
in
peace. We now invite you to help us take the lead in making Tampa
Bay and the world a better, more peaceful place by offering your ideas
and your efforts to a cause that transcends the pursuit of profit and
property. Thanks to all the groups who participated and tabled with
us. We
hope we have helped you spread your particular message and make new
friends. You're a part of our community and are always welcome to
stand with us in solidarity against war, greed and ignorance. Thanks to
the incredible bands and performers who provided us with music.
Our appreciation goes to Bob Howes, Ramona Quimby, Two-Term Nightmare,
the Critical Resistance Band, Gainesville Liberation Orchestra and The
Refuge
Band. Thanks to all of you who helped plan and who worked so hard
to make this day a reality. Thanks to Mike for securing the park,
Mauricio for the banners, Cheddar for directing the bands, Carol and
Tracy for the Food Not Bombs effort, Lynn for hosting, Josh and friends
for the outreach work, and thanks to the dozens of others who made this
day such a success including Larissa, Paul, Sydney, Prof, Don,
Liz, Bruce, Charles, Patricia, Kyle, Spaz, Jimmy, Rain, Dennis,
Megan, Chuck,
Adler, Ryan, Joyce, Dave, Mary Jane, Cass, Ivette,
Barbara, Serge and Cindy. And an extra-special thanks goes to
Logan
Brooks. You were the inspiration for this event. Your
memory gave us the strength to carry on with it when it seemed like we
could do no more. And your example helped us fight through all
the fatigue and frustration so that we could accomplish it. This
is just the beginning of the beautiful things that will come from your
legacy.
Now, we must take the next step. For those of you who join us for the first time on Saturday or Wednesday nights, take a moment and talk to someone in the group. To our established members, take the time to talk to someone who has just joined us. You will find out in no time how much we all have in common. This is the best way we have to conquer fear and apathy to build a peace community around us. One person, one conversation at a time. You are all incredible people. And all you have to do to prove it is to be open, and to be yourself. Thank you from St. Pete for Peace.
