The war in
Afghanistan serves as the longest in U.S. history, and has spanned
almost as long as both world wars combined, costing the lives of more
than 12,000 Afghan civilians (read) and about 1,800 Americans (read).
President Obama has tripled the number of troops in Afghanistan, and
even if his stated draw down occurs in 2012, there will still be double
the number of U.S. military personnel in Afghanistan than under
president Bush.
A couple weeks ago we had a live conversation with
youth in Afghanistan, and they really need the support - it seemed like
they're losing some hope. We will take pictures of Thursday's protest
and send them to the kids in Afghanistan as a way to show that there
are people in the U.S. who are standing up for them.

The
Occupy Wall Street protests are gaining momentum, the Occupy DC actions
start this week, and other "Occupations" around the country are
springing up daily.
Join in solidarity
with the Muslim community and many peace and justice groups for a
protest this Thursday, Oct. 6, which marks 10 years since the start of
the Afghanistan war.
We are also happy to be joined by Occupy
Tampa on that day, who will march to the Federal Courthouse from their
planned actions. |
Don't miss out. Be part of the growing movement that says "Human
Needs, Not Corporate Greed". Do whatever it takes to get to the
protest that day and help spread the word!
Event
co-sponsors and participants include St. Pete for Peace, Tampa Bay
YaYa, Nature Coast Coalition for Peace and Justice, The Refuge,
Veterans for Peace - Tampa Bay, Friends of Human Rights, CAIR Florida,
Islamic Community of Tampa and PDA Florida.

MUST WATCH VIDEO: THE REAL COST OF WAR IN AFGHANISTAN
A brilliant video produced for U.K Stop the War Coalition, which gives the facts in
little more than two minutes, and ends with an unanswerable conclusion: The war
in Afghanistan must stop now and all the troops come home
