Palmetto peace cornering
3:00-5:00pm

The Green Bridge Patriots and St Pete for Peace will be having a peace rally at the Green bridge in Palmetto on Labor Day at 3pm. Come join us. There will also be an airplane flying overhead during the day with a peace banner, (over the Green bridge and the beaches).  As of now the banner will read "Peace on Earth-Stop the War-Impeach Bush". But we are open to suggestions. A previous fly over was done this past Easter (click here).  Also the Green Bridge Patriots will gladly accept donations to help pay for the cost of the plane. For further information contact Karen at karen@stpeteforpeace or call 941-723-6338.  Directions: If you are coming south over the Skyway Bridge follow the signs for 19 towards Bradenton [stay to the right]. Then 19 merges with 41 south. Again, stay to the right which is business 41. This will take you through downtown beautiful Palmetto. Just before the Green Bridge make a right [just after the Shell Station] and turn left by the boat dock, keep left and that's where we will be.

There will be a carpool - details to follow.

Lebanon rally, St. Petersburg, FL 7.22.06

July 18
- St. Pete for Peace statement on the situations in
Lebanon & Palestine
While the US media paint Israel as the victim and as simply defending themselves against Lebanon and Palestine (NPR has been particularly egregious), we understand the situation for what it is:  Israel and the US are the aggressors and appear to be provoking wide scale attacks on Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Iran.
"(Iraq) was being discussed as part of a five-year campaign plan...and there were a total of seven countries, beginning with Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Somalia, and Sudan."  From four-star general Wesley Clark's 2003 book Winning Modern Wars.

Many people in the US (including the Democratic party) support Israel's state-sponsored terrorism, and others are afraid to denounce the actions of Israel; we are not - St. Pete for Peace denounces Israel's aggression in absolute terms.  Israel occupies Palestine and the Golan Heights, they support Bush's wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and they are now attacking Lebanon (again).  We condemn the actions of Israel and stand in solidarity with the people of Lebanon and Palestine.

For a few years many people have discussed the possibility of additional US-led or US-supported wars of aggression against other countries in the middle east.  That time appears to be here.  Tensions are particularly high right now, even by recent standards.  Talk of aggression towards Syria and Iran are filling the TV news shows.

The status quo is not acceptable.  Please find the most effective way you know to bring about change.  St. Pete for Peace will not stand by as more people suffer at the hand of US imperialism and apathy.
