Demonstration in Weeki Wachee, FL
Feb. 4, 2006

LISTEN TO WMNF'S COVERAGE
(starts at the 24:30 mark)

This past Saturday about 70 people from the NatureCoast Coalition for Peace and Justice, Peace Now Citrus County and St. Pete for Peace joined together for an anti-war rally in Weeki Wachee.  It was a chance for peace activists from all over West Central
Florida to gather in solidarity and show how widespread opposition to this war is in our state.

Demonstrators braved gusty winds to hold signs and banners calling for an end to the occupation of Iraq.  Veterans dressed in camoflauge stood side by side with young, black-clad revolutionaires to voice their opinions.  A majority of passing drivers showed
support for our message, an indication that a wide cross-section of people in our state are resisting this war.  Calls for the impeachment of president Bush were often received very enthusiastically.

We thank the NatureCoast Coalition for organizing this event and for inviting us to join them, and our appreciation also goes to the members of Peace Now Citrus County and St. Pete for Peace who went the distance to show their support.  We look forward to
coming together again to speak out against war and occupation and to sew the seeds of community building throughout our state.
