Apple Pies & America's Lies: July 4th Un-Celebration
Oh
say can you see? The hypocrisy that is! As citizens raised in the
United States, we have long been programmed that the U.S. is the
greatest country in the world, our democracy is top notch, and our
standard of living is far better than other industrialized
nations. We have even been convinced that of all nations on
the
planet, God chooses to bless ours. Too bad it's all a lie.
As the July
4th "holiday"
approaches, many of us will be faced with the difficult decision of
whether to venture out into offensive displays of American jingoism,
i.e. BBQs and fireworks displays, or whether to say "no way" to false
American Exceptionalism. Thanks to the winner of the America is not
Exceptional Contest, you can do both!
Join St.
Pete for Peace and friends on Saturday July 4th, 2015 at 6:30pm in Straub
Park (250 Bay Shore Dr NE, St Petersburg, FL 33701)
for a one of kind get together of comrades and like-minded
thinkers. The contest winner, Daryn St. Pierre, has
constructed
multiple vertical displays in conjunction with the false American
Exceptionalism theme that will be displayed in the park.
Along
side, we will have a potluck replete with good food, healthy
conversation, and solidarity.
What you
should bring: A dish
to share with others (please label veg/vegan dishes); something to
drink (we will have water available); a blanket or chairs to sit on;
picnic games such as football, bocce, or Frisbee; something to save you
from mosquitoes; your beautiful smiling face :) You may also
want
to bring change for parking, or you may park in the garage located at 117 2nd
Street North.
