PHOTOS FROM 6/24/14 PROTEST - No More US Military Action in Iraq!
No airstrikes, drones, weapons or military "advisers"!

We need to act now because it looks like time may be running out.
On Monday, John Kerry told Iraq that US support would be "intense and sustained" if the Iraqi government unites against ISIS.
And Obama has already sent 300 US troops
to Iraq that includes Green Berets, Army Rangers and Navy SEALs - but
he is calling them "advisers." Obama also informed Congress that he doesn’t need their permission to wage another war on Iraq.
So we need to take action now. And what better place than down
the street from MacDill Air Force base, which is US Central Command.
There will be some signs, but please bring your own, as well as
bullhorns, video cameras and mostly your desire to stop the US from
ruining Iraq even more than we already have!

Protest recap
Following an invigorating
Iraq panel discussion on Monday, there was a disappointing protest on
Friday in Tampa. There were about 30 people present, which was
relatively large compared to a national action called by ANSWER and
CODEPINK in Washington that only drew a couple dozen people. But
the demo in Tampa didn't include a large presence from the traditional
antiwar movement (and no Democrats) and the response to the protest
from the passersby was apathetic, at best.
It could be that it was difficult for people to get to Tampa at 4pm on
a Friday (as we said, we wanted to do the protest on Saturday but
respected the PRIDE parade in St. Pete on that day.)
Do Americans just not care about Iraq anymore? Or maybe they just don't
want to think about the Iraq issue again? Or was the
disappointing protest just circumstantial? |
Iraq Panel Discussion
Monday, June 23, 7:00pm
Genaro Coffee Co., 1047 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, FL
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 16, 2014
St. Petersburg, FL – On Monday, June 23, beginning at 7:00pm, St.
Pete for Peace will host a panel discussion on Iraq at Genaro Coffee
Co. (1047 Central Ave, St Petersburg). Panelists, consisting of a
wide range of community activists, will discuss their perspectives on
the current situation in Iraq. Following the discussion will be a
Q&A session where everyone is encouraged to be involved.
"The Obama administration is arming ISIS in Syria and now it may bomb
them in Iraq? We have destroyed Iraq with two wars and ten years
of sanctions. The idea that we can play any role today in fixing
what's happening there is nonsensical," stated St. Pete for Peace
spokeswoman Marianne Huber.
Panelists for the evening will be Melissa Baird and Susan Le (St. Pete
for Peace), Mike Fox (Progressive Democrats of America), Brian Moore
(NatureCoast Coalition for Peace and Justice), Jennifer Sullivan (Green
Party of Florida), Jesse Nevel (Uhuru Solidarity Movement), and Amer
Baghajati (Syrian American Forum).
The evening's discussion will be moderated by Sean Kinane of WMNF.
