RECAP
After a stormy afternoon, both the sun and anti-war protesters came out
to celebrate the 4th of July in their own unique ways.
Banners
were seen on the I-275 overpass at both 22nd Ave North and 8th Street
South, declaring "Honk to Impeach Bush and Cheney" and "Blessed are the
Peacemakers" to name a few. Following the bannering, about 70
protesters gathered to air Bush's dirty laundry by marching with
clothes lines, through Straub and Vinoy park, jammed with
clothing
portraying messages of Bush's crimes and failed policies.
Messages included, "Most Children Left Behind" and "You say president,
I say dictator". Flags were also flown upside down to
emphasize
the fact that our country is in severe distress. It was a
great
day to gather with like-minded people who are concerned and afraid of
the direction our country is moving in and also empowering to stand up
and speak out for what is right. Thank you to those who
braved
the rain and traveled from Gainesville, Spring Hill, North Pinellas and
Hillsborough county. The Bush's dirty laundry parade was a
huge
success thanks to everyone.
Participating groups:
Florida
Peace Action Network, Tampa Bay Veterans For
Peace, St.
Pete for Peace, Progressive
Democrats of America (Pinellas), Nature
Coast Coalition for Peace and Justice, and The
Refuge Ministries.
