Demonstration in support of Gaza
- Temple Terrace, FL - Nov. 24, 2012
Event
sponsored by Friends of Human Rights, St. Pete for Peace, The Islamic
Community of Tampa, Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign, The
Refuge, NatureCoast Coalition for Peace & Justice, the Green
Party
of Florida, and CAIR FL.
St.
Pete for Peace started nearly 10 years ago, and during this time we
have needed to take action to denounce Israeli aggression on four
different occasions:
- In
2006 when Israel attacked and invaded Lebanon.
- In
2008 when Israel attacked and invaded Gaza.
- In
2010 when Israel assassinated 9 International human rights activists on
a flotilla that was bringing medicine and food into Gaza.
- And
in 2012 when Israel assaulted Gaza.
In
each of these incidents, Israel was the aggressor. In the
most recent
assault, Hamas did not start the conflict, as Israel, the U.S. and most
western media insist. The conflict was triggered on November 4th
when Israel killed a Palestinian man near the Gaza border. The man was
reported to be unarmed and 'mentally unfit'. Additionally, on
November 8th
during an Israeli incursion beyond Israel's border fence with the Gaza
Strip, a 12-year old Palestinian boy was shot dead while he was playing
soccer. Also, an underlying cause is the devastating and
illegal
Israeli economic blockade on Gaza.
